CLAT 2017 Analysis

* The difficulty level of a section is assessed as a function of both the toughness of questions as well as deviation from expected pattern. This analysis is based on the memory of ALPians. We will update as and when we have more information

Sectional Analysis:

1. English & Comprehension:

This section was quite easy. The RC passage was lengthy, however had only 5 questions. Spellings were also very simple. Heavy dose of Grammar was tested including prepositions and correction of sentences. Time consuming parajumbles were conspicuously absent.

2. Logical Reasoning:

The section had mostly analytical reasoning. Puzzles and arrangements, blood relations and directions, calendar, syllogisms. Students felt 1 or 2 questions had errors. This section would have taken lesser time due to absence of lengthy statement-based critical reasoning questions. Again an easy section.

3. Legal Aptitude:

This section was a pleasant surprise with no current GK or legal GK questions on Constitution. Around 35 principle-based questions and 15 foreign words/maxims. Students who had practised the knack of attempting principle-based questions and familiarized themselves with maxims and foreign words would have found this section a cake-walk. So this section can be considered easy.

4. Mathematics:

This section was probably the toughest because it was lengthy. Time, speed and distance, profit & loss, averages, probability and linear equations were covered. Students who judiciously selected questions to solve would have done well.

5. General Knowledge:

This section was the biggest surprise with predominantly current affairs present. Latest current affairs including one on the French President and the stay on Kulbhushan Jadhav’s execution were asked. There were a few questions that were “weird” and students who did not get fazed would have quickly left them and moved on to other sections to score marks.
