CLAT 2018 (Post Key) Analysis

* The difficulty level of a section is assessed as a function of both the toughness of questions as well as deviation from expected pattern. This is our revised analysis after the CLAT 2018 key was released.

Sectional Analysis:

1. English & Comprehension:

Comprehension passage was lengthy but easy with fairly direct questions. Vocabulary is tested with contextual usage than directly. Critical reasoning pattern like para summary and main idea were also tested. Other expected types like idioms/phrasal verbs, incorrect grammar usage also have come. Overall this section has some surprises which could be skilfully handled by ALPians.

2. Logical Reasoning:

Logical Reasoning section had all usual question types like puzzles, arrangements, blood relations, directions, coding/decoding, series & sequences, syllogisms, course of action etc. In all, the section had no surprises but students should have selected questions to attempt wisely to avoid time consuming models.

3. Legal Aptitude:

Legal Aptitude section this year had a judicious mix of priciple -fact as well as legal GK questions. Statement and conclusion is an unexpected model here though the underlying concepts are familiar. The approach would have come easily to an ALPian from LR preparation anyway. Overall this section should be comfortable for all serious CLAT takers aka ALPians.

4. Mathematics:

Mathematics continues to be the least return on time section as always. While ALPians could identify around 7-9 doable questions, others would have been time traps which have to be leftout. The question involving dice figure was intriguing.

5. General Knowledge:

While the GK Section predominantly had current affairs, few questions tested static GK from independence era. Current affairs from early 2017 were also tested. This section would have been a relief for serious CLAT takers aka ALPians as compared to other sections.
